With the 2nd phase of the 137th Canton Fair coming, the number of inbound and outbound travelers passing Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport Port exceeded 5 million on April 21, achieving the milestone 26 days earlier than last year. The port now ranks second nationwide among all airport ports in terms of passenger volume.
Previously, the port reached 4 million passengers on March 31. It took just 21 days increased from 4 million to 5 million, 6 days faster than the same period last year.
Since 2025, Baiyun Immigration Inspection Station has processed 1.64 million foreign travelers from 193 countries, a 45.3% year-on-year increase. Foreign travelers now account for 37.2% of total border crossings, up 6.2 percentage points. The proportion of foreign tourists ranks first among the Chinese major airport ports.
Nearly 50% of foreign arrivals cited business and visitation as their main purposes for entering, reflecting the growing international vitality of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
This year, Baiyun Airport added and resumed 6 scheduled international routes, added 2 international airlines, and added 2 international flight points. Nearly 80 international passenger routes and 50 international cargo routes are in operation every week. The total number of international passenger and cargo flights inspected by Baiyun Immigration Inspection Station has exceeded 34,000.
Several factors, including China's expanded visa-free entry policies, the launch of new international flight schedules, and the Canton Fair, have driven the surge in cross-border travel at the airport.
To date, Baiyun station has processed over 370,000 visa-free foreign arrivals and more than 25,000 transit visa-exempt passengers, representing year-on-year increases of 151% and 25.4%, respectively. Visa-free arrivals now account for 47.4% of all inbound foreign travelers. The station has also processed 24-hour direct transit for over 290,000 international transfer passengers without requiring immigration formalities.
With the ongoing Canton Fair and the upcoming May Day holiday, passenger flows at Baiyun International Airport Port are expected to remain at a high level.
