The Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin has integrated the health station of the Macau New Neighbourhood (MNN) residential estate into the national infectious disease monitoring network, marking a significant step forward in public health collaboration with Macao.

The health station has officially become a monitoring sentinel, with its diagnosed infectious disease cases now reported to the national infectious disease monitoring system.

Cross-border public health collaboration

This initiative encompasses the infectious disease monitoring of Macao residents residing in Hengqin and cross-border populations, reflecting the deepening cooperation between the two regions in the public health sector.

The health station has established a coordinated reporting mechanism, enabling routine reporting of infectious diseases and public health events. This initiative facilitates the medical needs of Macao residents in Hengqin and sets a precedent for cross-border medical service integration within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area(GBA).As a crucial step in the cross-border public health integration between Hengqin and Macao, the integration of the health station into the national infectious disease monitoring system enhances the monitoring and reporting of infectious disease cases.

Services for Macao residents

The health station, operated by the Macao Health Bureau, provides Macao residents with medical services comparable to those in Macao. To access these services, Macao residents must present their Macao ID card and proof of residence or work in Hengqin.

The Guangdong Provincial Drug Administration has approved the use of 296 types of medicines from Macao in designated medical institutions within the cooperation zone. Each medicine is labeled and coded upon entry into Hengqin, with its information recorded in the zone's food and drug safety governance system, ensuring full traceability and regulatory oversight.

The station's staff, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and administrative personnel, are dispatched from Macao's health centers to ensure the quality and continuity of medical services, improving the quality of life for Macao residents in Hengqin and promoting greater integration within the GBA.
