On April 25, Wong Sio Chak, Macao's Secretary for Security, introduced a series of measures to enhance integration with Hengqin and promote the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) during a legislative meeting.
Face recognition clearance and single-plated vehicle policy to boost convenience
Macao and Hengqin will launch a face recognition clearance system at Hengqin Port, allowing travelers to pass through without showing physical documents. This system, set to be implemented in the fourth quarter of 2025, will significantly enhance the efficiency of border crossings. Additionally, 46 new self-service channels and six manual channels, all equipped with face recognition technology, will be added at Hengqin Port.
This advancement aims to provide a more convenient and efficient experience for frequent travelers between Macao and Hengqin, reducing waiting times and streamlining the crossing process.
The single-plated vehicle policy, which allows Macao-registered vehicles to travel in Hengqin, will be further optimized. Special lanes for frequent travelers will be introduced at Hengqin Port to separate them from general tourists, thereby enhancing vehicle clearance efficiency.
Cross-regional medical and security cooperation
To improve cross-border medical services, the Hong Kong-Macao Cross-Regional Ambulance Trial Program was launched in November 2024. Building on this, the Public Security Police Force and Fire Services Bureau of Macao will collaborate with Hengqin authorities to refine the details of cross-regional ambulance services, ensuring faster and safer transport for critically ill patients.
Wong Sio Chak emphasized the importance of regional security collaboration. Macao will strengthen cooperation with Hengqin's police and security departments to establish more efficient cross-regional security mechanisms, addressing safety concerns for Macao residents living, working, and studying in Hengqin.
In preparation for the 15th National Games, to be jointly hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao in November 2025, Macao's police will enhance security measures and collaborate with their Hong Kong and Guangdong counterparts to ensure the event's smooth and safe conduct.
